How to Unlove? - Part 2

She felt like breaking up, but she remembered the values her family taught her. The fact that her father saw and imagined her marriage to Rakesh. Her heart, though, was not with Rakesh, but her brain always gave her the facts to think about her father. 

Rakesh sometimes behaved violently and abused Megha. He was controlling and manipulative. There was an instance that Megha faced when both were in college. They had a break and both went to a nearby cafe. They were in a car and Rakesh was driving. There was a car that overtook Rakesh's car. Rakesh abused that person and cursed him with bad words. Megha asked Rakesh to calm down. However, Rakesh abused Megha and hit her, saying that no matter who goes wrong, it's her duty to always support Rakesh. 

Megha broke up that day with Rakesh. However, Rakesh soon started to win her back and was apologetic. Since Megha was madly in love with him, she forgave him and they got back together. There were many other incidents throughout their relationship when Megha was a victim of his anger. Megha was still with him because she loved him truly and religiously. 

Megha decided to think less about the relationship and focus on her career. Megha also loved traveling and decided to travel at least twice a year to different states with her mom. So she decided to go to Orrisa and Kolkata. Rakesh cared less, and their phone calls became fewer. They would naturally spend less time. However, both of them used to message each other. As mentioned earlier, they used to meet less often, and both were always comfortable with this arrangement. Their focus was always career first and then marriage. 

Megha wanted to spend most of her time travelling and working. Her work was from home, so she could travel and work. During this trip, she met a couple who were so in love with each other. They would care about each other's medicine, food, and water. She loved seeing how caring and loving this couple is. The respect and loyalty were so visible. "Proper made for each," Megha said it out loud. 

The couple giggled and responded Thanks. They said this is "the bare minimum". When you're in love, these things come automatically. There's no force, and everything is just natural. Megha went on silent mode the moment she heard these words. 

Now her goal was to think about this and speak with Rakesh. She immediately called Rakesh that night and told him everything. Rakesh did not take this incident seriously and believed that every relationship is different. Some relationships are practical, while others are overly emotional. 

Megha was devastated by the fact that love, care, and respect are the essence of every relationship. These things are natural. She keeps thinking about these things. 

Now Megha comes back to her home after the long trip. She was satisfied as this was all she needed after what she had gone through in the past years. This was the first time she stepped out with her mom after her father's demise. They both felt good. Since they both were relaxed and felt rejuvenated, her mom said, "Megha, you are now nearing 25, and your relationship is now 9 years old. Most of our relatives know about this, and I now want you both to get married". Megha was tense and confused as to how to make her mom understand her dilemma and the fact that she doesn't see a bright future for this relationship. Yet she said, "Yes, I agree, Mom". Her mom was happy and said that on her birthday, she would bring up the topic with her boyfriend, Rakesh. 

Megha was excited about her 25th birthday as she was going to buy an iPhone 12 for herself. She had booked it already, but it was going to arrive on her birthday. Little happiness, like buying a phone out of her own hard-earned money, would excite her. She was all about spending her own hard-earned money.

Rakesh, on the other hand, was all about her father's pet. He was 26 years old and was still doing nothing but playing PUBG on his phone all day. His parents were tense about his behavior as they expected him to help his father in the business. His father wanted Rakesh to take over the business as his father was now nearing 65 years. Rakesh had no realisation and thought that his parents were simply nagging about these things. He believed that after studying for years, he deserved some 2-3 years of break. 

Megha had no idea that Rakesh was this lazy about these things. As mentioned earlier, their communication had drastically reduced, and now they know nothing about each other. They would Video call once a week and text just good morning and good night. 

Somewhere Megha knew that the relationship and the emotions were changing, but Rakesh was ignorant about these changes and was not at all vocal about his feelings. Slowly, they started meeting just twice a year. 

It was now 2023 when Megha turned 28. On her birthday, her mother decided to talk to Rakesh again about the wedding. Megha met Rakesh, and they had an amazing day until dinner. Megha took Rakesh to a fancy restaurant for dinner, saying that it was her treat. The order was placed and served. This day was different. Rakesh was lost. His phone was ringing every 30 minutes. Megha asked him what was happening. Who's calling? Rakesh said, "Oh, that's no one, just PUBG friends asking to join the game. Megha believed. 

While having food, Rakesh said, "Megha, what do you think about this relationship?". Do we still feel the same about each other? These two questions hit Megha, and she said, "I don't know Rakesh. But my father has seen you as his son-in-law, and I cannot step. No matter what hurdles we may face, this relationship has to work. We have been together for a decade now, and over these years, I have seen you as my husband. I have planned so many things with you. There may be issues, but we will work together and make this relationship work". 

Rakesh just said, "Fine". This made Megha think that something is off. Megha straight away took him to her place after dinner. They went to her room and sat on her bed. She asked him, "Rakesh, is there something you want to tell me? Is everything alright?". To that, he responded, "I don't know, Megha. I think we should break up". 

Megha's world shook. She quickly said, "Rakesh, I am 28 now. People know about us. I have lost my father, and I don't know how Mom is going to take this". Rakesh said, "I don't know. Being together feels disastrous. I cannot take a ticket to a future where we won't be in love. I don't feel like loving you or caring for you. Do you wish to be with someone who does not care for you?" 

Megha was shocked, almost about to cry, and was silent until Rakesh said, "I was pretending to be in love with you all these years. You were a trophy that most boys wanted in high school. I won you and was with you for a decade now. I don't love you, Megha". 

Megha broke down, and that's when his phone rang again. The name that popped up on his screen was "LOVE" with a heart. 

Who was she? Was Rakesh cheating on Megha? If so, since when and why did he inform her so late if he was never in love? Is it over? What would be the family's reaction?
